2025 BR Combine Rules

Hello friends,

With the inaugural BR Combine underway July 11th, 2025, as the Commish, I felt the need to compile everything into a singular document to outline all of the rules for our upcoming combine.

Section I- Scoring and Order

This has been very lightly discussed, but what I’m going to write in here for now is a simple scoring system. In every event, how each owner finishes below will receive the corresponding amount of points.

1st Place- 8 points

2nd Place- 7 points

3rd Place- 6 points

4th Place- 5 points

5th Place- 4 points

6th Place- 3 points

7th Place- 2 points

8th Place- 1 point

We can change whatever we want, but this seems like a balanced scoring system that allows for standings to continually change after each event.

In each event, the host of each event will always be first to go. The rest of the order will be decided by the random number generator.

Section II- Event Specific Rules

Below is each event’s basic rules. Can add or subtract, just let me know

Steve: 3 Point Shootout

  • This event will be one round only. It will also be untimed

  • Each player will shoot at 5 spots. Corner, diagonal, top of key, diagonal, corner

  • 5 shots will be taken from each spot. Since we won’t have a special color ball or a rack, players will, prior to starting their turn, choose which shot at each spot will be their moneyball. It must be the same shot attempt number at each spot.

  • Each made shot is worth 1 point, made moneyball shots will be worth 2 points

  • Tiebreaker will be 5 shots from one of the 5 spots, player’s choice. No moneyball

Travis: Pitching Extravaganza

  • Each player stands 60 feet from the target. They will get 7 throws each

  • Each hit on the target counts as 1 point

  • A hit counts as hitting the 2 x 6 board itself, not the base holding up the target

  • Tie breaker: players will do a throw for throw overtime

  • Final standings will be ranked on highest number of hits on target to lowest number of hits on target

Max: 40 Yard Dash

  • This event will emulate the 40 yard dash done at the NFL Combine

  • Each player will attempt the dash two times

  • Max, with this being his event, will be the time keeper at the end of the dash for every participant

  • When Max’s turn to run arrives, he may choose who to be the time keeper

  • Each player’s fastest time between the two runs will be their time on record

  • In the wild event of a tie, those in a tie will run a third attempt. The tie will be broken only using that third run time and the players will be ranked between their third run times.

  • Example: If the player/players record a faster time than their time on record from their first two runs, and it happens to be faster than someone above them in the standings, it would not then bump them up in the standings. That time will solely be used for the tiebreaker

  • Final standings will be ranked by fastest time to slowest time

Kevin: Solo Cornhole

  • Boards will be distanced at the official ACA distance of 27 feet

  • Each player will throw 8 throws from the same one board to another. They will attempt this a second time after they have completed their first 8 throws and the points have been totaled

  • Points are scored as follows: 0 points for missing the board, 1 point for landing the bag on the board, 3 points for making it in the hole

  • Like normal cornhole, if a bag hits the ground first and then bounces up onto the board, that bag will not count. Bag will be cleared off the board before the next throw

  • If a bag that is already on the board gets knocked off by another bag, that original bag now does not count

  • Player’s final point total will be their best point total from either turn, not combined score

  • In the event of a tie between players, the tiebreakers will be:

First Tiebreaker: Cumulative score from both rounds

Second Tiebreaker (if cumulative score from both rounds also happens to be a tie): 8 bag rethrow between players. If that score also ties, continue until players don’t tie on the 8 bag throw

  • Final standings will be ranked by highest score to lowest score

Patrick: 50 yard Swim

  • Each player will go one at a time. They will swim 50 yards (2 laps)

  • Each player will only attempt one time. Their time recorded during this attempt will be their time

  • Since no diving is allowed at this pool, the attempt’s start time will begin when the player’s hand leaves the wall as they start their push off the wall

  • Patrick, with this being his event, will be the time keeper for everyone besides himself. He may choose who he wants as his time keeper when he does his attempt

  • In the wild event of a tie, those in the tie will attempt just one lap. The faster time takes the higher final spot

  • Final standings will be ranked by the fastest times to slowest times

Tyler: Bench Press

  • This event is being split into tiers. Tier 1 will consist of how many reps of 185 lbs can be done. For those who cannot bench that weight, they will be allowed to do reps of 135 lbs, but will only be competing against those who also bench 135 lbs. Tier 2 players cannot finish higher than anyone attempting 185 lbs

  • If a player wants to attempt 185 lbs, but cannot get 1 rep, they will still be allowed to drop to Tier 2 and do their attempt at 135 lbs

  • A rep counts as the bar touching the chest of the player, and extending back up to the point where the player’s arms are straight

  • Any rep that does not meet that guideline will not count towards the player’s final rep count

  • Tier 1 players will be ranked on how many full reps can be completed

  • Tier 2 players will also be ranked on how many full reps can be completed

  • Final standings will be ranked by how many reps completed by Tier 1 players, then how many reps completed by Tier 2 players

Jacques: Fortnite Glider Training (Dead Hang)

  • Each player will simply grab the pull up bars, and hang from them as long as possible

  • Players may use chalk. No gloves allowed

  • Hanging must be done in the pull up position, with palms facing away from the player

  • Players must use both hands during the hang, with the exception of removing one hand quickly to adjust grip. IE alternating hands is not allowed

  • Jacques, with this being his event, will be the time keeper for all players besides himself. He may choose who he’d like the time keeper to be for his attempt

  • In the event of a tie, tiebreaker will be all players in a tie will do another dead hang. They cannot improve their original time with this tiebreaker attempt. Longer hold between the players doing the tiebreaker will get the higher seed

  • Final standings will be ranked by longest time hung to shortest time hung

Sloan: Punt, Pass, Kick

  • Each player will go one at a time, with two attempts per action. Their best punt, best pass, and best kick will be counted toward their final, cumulative score

  • Each attempt will have a goal of going as straight as possible to maximize points gained

  • However many yards each punt, pass, and kick go, the player will receive that amount of points. Yardage will be counted as to where the ball first hits the ground, not wherever the ball ends up

  • Yardage will also be determined based off the straight line. If the ball goes left or right, distance will be measured via a straight line from where the ball first hits back to where the player would have needed to be standing to make that ball go in a straight line. This is designed to punish the player for not having the ball go in a straight line

  • Example: If I punt the ball and it goes 50 yards to my left, I would move over to be in line with the ball and measure from there. Because it went at such a bad angle, I actually only ended up punting the ball 20 yards. I would then be awarded only 20 points, whereas if I would have punted it in more of a straight line, I would have gotten closer to 50 yards and thus, 50 points.

  • Each player will take their higher point total from each event and add them together, given them their total points

  • Sloan, with this being his event, will be the yard marker along with one other of his choosing. Sloan can also choose who to have help measure any attempts that don’t go straight, as well as who he’d like to measure his attempts.

  • Final standings will be ranked by most total points to lowest total points

Section III: Order of Events

With Sloan arriving no later than 3pm on Friday, we can knock out all gym related events on Friday afternoon/evening. Patrick’s pool closes at 8pm, the rest of the gym closes at 8:30pm. We can do the 2 field related events Saturday morning, prior to lunch. Here is the suggested order of events:

Friday

1st: Steve’s 3 point shootout (good warm up for dash)

2nd: Max’s 40 yard dash

3rd: Jacques’ Dead Hang

4th: Patrick’s 50m Swim

5th: Tyler’s Bench Press

6th: Kevin’s Solo Cornhole (at the house)

Saturday

7th: Travis’ Pitching Extravaganza

8th: Sloan’s Punt, Pass, Kick

Alternative order of events:

If we all think we can get everything done by the time Pat’s pool closes, we could also do it this way and knock it all out on Friday and open up Saturday morning.

1st: Travis’ Pitching Extravaganza (at field while sun still up)

2nd: Sloan’s Punt, Pass, Kick (at field while sun still up)

3rd: Steve’s 3 point shootout (good warm up for dash)

4th: Max’s 40 yard dash

5th: Jacques’ Dead Hang

6th: Patrick’s 50m Swim

7th: Tyler’s Bench Press

8th: Kevin’s Solo Cornhole (at the house)

I put the bench press last at the gym at Pat’s recommendation. Can always do swimming last. Figured we could just do corn hole last when we get back to the house, since we really just need some sort of spotlight on the boards like we’ve done at Uncle Chad’s.
