Bragging Rights 2024 Road to the Playoffs and Dalton Dash
Commish’s Desk
By: Steve Workman
With 2 weeks left in the regular season, and league members chomping at the bit for some content as much as I’m chomping at the bit for OG Fortnite to make it’s grand return, I wanted to send out a blog outlining what’s at stake leading up to this year’s playoffs. We’ve gotten used to the same thing every year in terms of parity, and this year is no different. 2 playoff spots have been locked up, 4 teams remain in the hunt, and here’s what each team is eyeing as we move into the race to the championship and Dalton Dash participation.
GGOAT (Steve): I’ve been here before. I’ve locked up the 1 seed and my 3rd regular season championship, becoming only the 2nd owner to have 3+ regular season championships (Patrick, 5). I have everything on the line this season. This will be my 6th playoff appearance, and thus I’ll have my 6th chance at a championship which I so desperately covet. If I win one or both of my final two games, I will set the record for most wins in a season with 13 or 14 (12 was the record, Patrick and Sloan in 2022 and 2021). A full load is staring at me in the face like Max imitating Barney checking out that girl in the bar, but we are focused on winning a championship. That’s all that matters at this point.
Got Me Feeling Icey (Max): Max locked up a playoff berth with his win this past week. He reaches the playoffs for the 7th time, which is now second most of all time (Patrick, 9). Since he made the playoffs, he also retains his spot as one of only two owners to never win a Mully (also, Patrick). What’s on the line for Max? Joining the ranks of the other owner mentioned twice in this section and winning a 3rd title and becoming just the second owner to win 3 championships.
Waffle Daddy (Kevin): Kev is the closest among the remaining owners in the hunt to locking up a playoff spot based on tiebreakers. If he can win one of his final 2 games, he’s in. If he can achieve that feat, he would be playing in his 3rd playoffs in the last 4 years, and 4th playoffs overall. He’d avoid a chance at getting his record 5th Mully and having to run the Dalton Dash for a second time. If he can make the playoffs, a 2nd title is on the line and be able to join the ranks of the other multi time championship winners.
Paper Planes (Travis): Travis is also in a spot where if he can win one of his final two games, he’s in the playoffs as 8 wins is the magic number this year. If he does win one more game, he will be making his 4th playoffs and avoid his chance at a 2nd Mully (2015) and 2nd Dalton Dash. Number one thing on the line for Travis you ask? That 3rd title to establish himself as one of this league’s elite winners.
OnlyDawgs (Patrick): A bit of a different year than we’re accustomed to from Patrick, yet he still has a shot to make the playoffs if he wins out and has some losses from Travis. As he mentioned himself in the group chat, this is only the 2nd time in his storied franchise he’ll finish with a losing record. If he can make the playoffs, it’ll be for the 10th time out of our 12 seasons and have a chance at a 4th championship. If he can’t, he will be looking to avoid winning his first ever Mully, as well as running his first ever Dalton Dash. He also is in the running for the Only Me Title (most points against) if he can take it from Glenn’s grasp.
No Time to Die (Tyler): One of two owners without a title, the TE purist, and the man who went with the 4 WR strat in a standard league still has a chance at playoffs. He has the lowest chance to make it, but with some losses from Travis, and if he can win his last 2 games, there’s a chance apparently. If he can squeak in, he’d be making his 7th playoffs and tie Max for 2nd most appearances all time. He’d be seeking his first ever championship. If he can’t make it, he’d be looking to avoid his 2nd Mully (2018) and running in his first Dalton Dash.
Rowdy Rhinos (Sloan): An off year from who many consider the 2nd best owner in our decorated league. Since he’s been eliminated from the playoffs, what’s on the line for Sloan is simple- to not finish 8th for the first time in franchise history (he is the last remaining owner to never finish 8th in the regular season), and to not win the Mully for the 3rd time, which would then be the 2nd most Mully’s among our 8 owners (Kevin, 4). He has an outside shot to win the Only Me title, but if he does, it would be his 3rd (2015, 2016). Of course, he’s also looking to avoid having to run the Dalton Dash for the first time.
Glenn’s (Jacques): Last but not least, our very own “I lost this week and it’s 11am on a Wednesday” man himself. Jacques has several things looking at him right now as it currently stands. If he finishes 8th in the regular season, it would be his 2nd time in franchise history (2014). He’s also only one of two owners (Tyler) to never win an Only Me title, but he is on pace to win that for the first time. Lastly, he’s looking to avoid winning his 2nd ever Mully (also 2014) and run his first Dalton Dash.
It’s going to be a tight finish. I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out, and the discourse that follows. Best of luck to all other 7 teams (except Glenn’s and OnlyDawgs when I play them of course), and I’ll hopefully see most of you on Fortnite this weekend. Where we droppin?
