Week 7 Primer: Preview of Week 14

Image
This week, we each get a chance to get a peak at our week 14 opponent. Looking at the history of our league, the final week of regular season has at least half the league vying for their final spot in the standings. What a treat (and by that, I mean a nightmare) with some key teams on bye this week. On to the previews. Ready For a Full Load (6-0) vs. Fighting NRCA's (3-3) My feelings on Derrick Henry heading into this week when he drops 35 points: It was foolish of me to think the biggest, strongest, and one of the fastest backs in the league wouldn't have another great year behind one of the league's best lines. Henry-Kamara has become the league's LeBron-AD for now. I don't have Thielen or Jackson this week, but luckily kept McKinnon on the roster, and was able to pick up Chase "Corn-Fed" Claypool with a valuable 22 pts spent. No team has started 7-0 in our great league's history, as highlighted last week. NRCA's are used to being an underdog, w...

Week 6 Primer: Start/Sit COVID

If you would have asked me a month and a half ago how much I thought the pandemic was going to affect our season, hurt our players by making them literally unplayable either due to exposure or actual positive test, I would have said not much. Sure, maybe a positive test here or there, but training camps seemed to be going to plan mostly, and even with no preseason, things seemed to be running as smoothly as they could. The NBA was finishing up their bubble, NHL was proceeding as planned, maybe we could at least experience some normalcy in between the lines of fantasy football. If we're talking start/sit, I'm sitting COVID affecting our season 45 days ago. 30 days ago, a flex play in deeper leagues. Two weeks ago, a WR2 with high upside, given the Titans situation. Today? If we're equating output to affecting our season and week-to-week lineup expectations/projections/adjustments, COVID is a bellcow back. Somebody's getting bent over and rammed, whether they know it...

Week 5 Primer: CLBB swings again, read in 120 seconds or less

Alright, I felt like writing a week 5 preview this morning. To steal a phrase from all 32 NFL coaches, we've reached the end of our first quarter of the season (playoffs included).  Let's see who excelled, and who's got some work to do. Along with the week 5 matchups.  Coach Without A Season (3-1) vs. Rowdy Rhinos (0-4): North Raleigh Stand Up Maybe the matchup with the most palace intrigue, here's a list of teams who have started 0-4 in our league: 2018 Max: 6-8, finished fifth in regular season (finished sixth overall) 2017 Glenn's: 5-9, seventh in regular season(finished fifth overall) That's it. That's the list. A loss this week stacks the odds against the Rowdiest of Rhinos even more. If he can notch a win, though, a peek through the record books showed that the road to my second championship (the one Steve spent hard-earned FnF money to create a shirt about) began with a 1-4 start. I'm not one to bet against the Human Quicker Picker Upper, but if h...

Statement by Cobb’s Bubble Route: Long Live The League

Esteemed Members,  I’ll keep my remarks short today. I like to think I’ve developed a certain level of respect in this league, maybe not as a year in-year-out playoff contender, but as someone who shows up every week to play; as someone who has never missed an event prior to 2020; and as someone who has brought home a championship due to pure grit and staying power. We are in a weird time; 2020 has been a year like no other. America is approaching 190,000 COVID deaths at a minimum, and even as of yesterday, more than 1,000 Americans are dying daily. We are still in a pandemic, and with that comes making choices about risk. I respect each one of your choices, and I ask that the league respect mine. All that being said, I miss you lads dearly and will cherish the next opportunity I have to crank up the debauchery and weirdness. Lest we forget last year- I found myself popping an addy, staying up drafting until the wee hours of the morning, and finally yacking in the restroom o...

Musings Of A Man With Bragging Rights: Ready For A Full Load's Response to "Bragging Rights Owners vs The Chinese Common Cold"

Musings Of A Man With Bragging Rights Ready For A Full Load's Response to "Bragging Rights Owners vs The Chinese Common Cold" August 29th, 2020 Let the record reflect very clearly, the ownership group Ready For A Full Load ("Full Load") loves the energy of this league and the passion that rages through all of its owners. It was league communications like this that were envisioned being dispersed when Full Load established BR Almanac. The ownership of Full Load is proud to provide our league this platform for discussion and discourse.  Full Load ownership appreciates the ownership of Glenns plea to ensure the flames of our friendship stay stoked, that we never allow life’s inevitable obstacles to suppress our quests to claim the Keith Rendleman Trophy. This impassioned cry does not fall on deaf ears and should be seen by the league as a necessary reminder of our roots. While this is a groundbreaking league statement for its public nature, the fears and concerns e...

It is a pandemic with such a historic impact on our society that our kids, grandkids, and step kids will ask one day where were you when the outbreak happened? I know where I was brothers. I was in the “epicenter” of the outbreak working a mere mile away from the “no go” zone in New Rochelle, New York. I saw the national guard. I saw a robust community turn into a ghost town. I encountered a member of the synagogue which was the center of the outbreak.  I saw a glimpse into the future, 5 months i...
